Currently industry experts say that 99% of scrapbookers are women. Most are women who like to get out and socialize, be with their friends and still be making something which connects them to their families. That leaves 1 percent of scrapbookers across the country as men. Perhaps the men involved in the scrapbooking industry are more behind the scenes as business owners, investors, and designers. I predict that as family history and genealogy are combined with scrapbooking we may see men participating more. Perhaps men won’t desire to lay out scrapbook pages, but certainly in the digital scrapbooking arena they will feel more at home. Especially as digital scrapbooking becomes more customizable with more masculine pages to select — and the ability to make home movies “moving scrapbooks” from digital photos. It will be fun to see where the industry takes us.

Proudly part of the 1 percent! I began this after my son was born and was addicted to taking pictures of him! So many people said “you shoud write things down because you do forget.” I took their advice to heart and as the journaling occurred, a natural outflow was the picture arrangement to go along with the story. I do all mine digitally and find it a great hobby and an incredible keepsake for my son!
Count me in the 1%. I’ve been part of the “cult” (lol) since 2002. I have a therory there are many but because it has a female association/stigma, men are not comfortable coming out about it. I know I kept it to mysef for a long time. Also, in all these years I have never attended a crop.
This thread has been slowly building since 2005 and there are still no groups on the web that consist of men. There are plenty of free sites out there (Yahoo!, Webs.com, etc…) that one could easily start a community.
I’m hoping more masculine supplies come out soon, and not because I am a man, but because I am a woman who is very creative, I’m a painter, I draw, I create from many different mediums, but I have a pretty masculine side and most stuff is too girly for me. It’s fine when I am making a gift for someone who is more feminine, or a baby book, but when I’m doing things for myself and my partner I am more into earth tones. I’m sorry some of you guys get stereotyped, but you aren’t the only ones. Everyone assumes all women are mothering nurturing types that want to cook(ok, so I’m an excellent chef too) and have kids. So I’m always on the lookout for toned down scrap-booking supplies, more things that are not labeled boy or girl. Some girls like snails and puppy dog tails and some guys are sugar and spice……..and no not all of them are gay.
I'm also part of that 1%. Its just a way to relax at the end of the week. I've had a ton of people ask me if I'm gay….WRONG!!!! I've taken a beating from both men and some women. Personally it doesn't matter what people think of me…they aren't important in my life.
I'm doing this for my kids and their children. I have 2 kids who never got to meet their grandfather. Its always bothered me. So if anything happens to me there is something they can look at and see a bit about me and my life.

I too am a “1 percenter!” My wife and I started this together as a way to preserve vacation memories, but we have expanded it beyond that. I enjoy using different techniques and layouts and am a paper freak! Perhaps my most meaningful memory was creating a scrapbook by myself for my mother and giving it to her about 3 weeks before she passed on. It was a blessing to share it with her and also to see it displayed at the funeral home.

As scrapbooking and digiscrapbooking seem to be a “women’s world”..maybe men think there is no “room” for them in that “world” and they prefer staying outside..
I’m a srcapbooking guy and i wish there was a place guys could get together to scrap. it’s a little intimidating to go to crops and know you will be the only guy there i’ve never been to a class or a crop that there hase been another guy there. i usually sit in the corner and unless the crop is full i’m usually sitting alone. i know i don’t have “cooties” as my wife usually tells me. BTW i live in st. louis, mo

Swedish though but still a scrapbooker. My stuff involves mostly “painting like” craft which I frame and put on the wall and not something I keep in a book.
I am a business consultant, personal trainer and thai boxin coach so whatever prejudges you have, leave them…
From a guys point of view (i.e.:mine) there is a zillion pink babies and cute charms to choose from but no flaming logos or tribal typefaces.

another of the 1% of the guys here… I love scrapbooking. I somewhat new to the craft but learning. I’ve found I really like the social part of it as I get to know others who scrapbook.
I guess I’m one of the 1%! I have created several scrapbooks for friends and family and they can never believe that I created the scrapbook layouts plus my wife is constantly offering my services to fellow colleagues. I enjoy the craft and even sell my scrapbook layouts online! Hopefully, there will be more of us in the near future!
My husband keeps a scrapbook with all his woodworking projects in it. I used to be a scrapbook consultant and I could never get him to help me with my albums. So I gave him one of my 8 x 10 albums and told him it was for his projects! He takes pictures of each wood project he makes, so he put them all in an album and even used colored paper to make it look good! I was very proud of him.
Now he has something to show whenever a customer asked him for ideas for gifts!

Hi, this is an interesting idea! I just hope that if it catches on, the men will get double prints. That could solve two purposes; both parents will be scrapping, and then if anything happens (such as divorce), both will have memories to go with them! I don’t want my hubby messin’ up my scrapping area though! He does not have the same ideas about neat and tidy that I do.
